Lifestream Mapping

For a while now I have been considering how best make use of all of the incredible services available for Lifestreaming.  However, as I began to publish more, I realized that I was not only duplicating my efforts but also duplicating my content on various services.   This problem grew almost exponentially as I signed onto new services and I found myself spending far too much time managing each individually.

While I still connect to many sites directly, Posterous is greatly simplifying the publishing of content to various services and is acting as a central location for much of that content.    To further organize myself in this Lifestreaming endeavor, I decided to map out my approach in Visio.

The primary goals in planning my Lifestream are:

  • Consolidate stream inputs
  • Reduce duplicates in the stream
  • Increase stream outputs

This is my first draft and I will constantly be reviewing it to find ways to incorporate more services with less effort.  Any thoughts?

I really like this and I continue to look for ways to tweak and simplify my personal Lifestreaming workflow all the time. It would be good to provide examples for this as well. Based on the Map I see that you both post directly to Facebook as well as by sending emails to Posterous. Can you provide examples on when / why you would use one method versus the other? Also what is the difference between the normal and pink Facebook icon?

Thanks Mark. While simplifying my publishing stream, I find that there are two streams I cannot quite integrate: public and personal. If posting some photos for example, I would send them to Posterous which would publish to Flickr and Facebook. However, there are many times I just update my "status" directly on Facebook for friends/family and do not wish to make it public through Posterous.

Do you also maintain public/personal streams? I am still looking for a more streamlined solution.

The pink "f" icon is actually for Flickr, which is very similar to Facebook :)

I haven't yet found any lifestreaming application (other than self-hosted ones) that integrate comments from across the social web right into the lifestream.

Mahendra, that is a good point. As comments/discussions emerge at the various lifestream outputs, it becomes necessary to respond to each where they were contributed.

I think services like Disqus my help to centralize this activity, but I need to study that a bit more.

Also take a look at Backtype.com which does a good job of aggregating comments made across all websites. You can take a look at my page here: http://www.backtype.com/krynsky

Mark, we include posterous comments as well so you can add those to your bt profile... and then you can pull them into friendfeed... etc.
